How Long Does It Take for Breast Augmentation Scars to Completely Fade?

After breast augmentation surgery, it may take 12 months or longer for a new scar to fade. However, this duration can vary depending on factors such as the patient's age, skin type, postoperative scar care, and closeness to the original incision type.
Additionally, it is important to keep the scars away from the sun until they no longer appear red.

At what age do breasts stop developing?

Breast development usually slows down or completes around ages 18 to 20, but changes can continue throughout your life depending on weight loss/gain, genetics, pregnancy, and age. All these conditions can affect your breasts throughout your life.

What causes numbness after breast augmentation surgery?

There are two types of numbness: in the nipple and décolletage areas. Numbness in the décolletage and nipple areas is very common but temporary.

Numbness can occur after breast augmentation surgery, but it is usually temporary.

As your breasts swell and heal, some sensation loss may occur, but it generally lasts a few months after surgery.

What are the symptoms of hematoma after breast augmentation surgery?

After breast augmentation, it is important to recognize hematomas and treat them immediately to avoid secondary complications.

Symptoms of hematoma include bruising on one side, widespread and progressive or worsening swelling, and sudden intense pain on one side. Hematomas require reoperation to control bleeding and drain the accumulated blood inside the breast pocket.

If you have any of these symptoms, I recommend you contact your surgeon immediately.

How long should I stop breastfeeding before breast augmentation surgery?

Generally, the breast should be completely dry before surgery because the nipple and milk ducts may carry bacteria, and if there is leakage during breast implant surgery, there is a risk of contaminating the implant.

How soon can I shower after breast augmentation surgery?

Usually, I recommend delaying showering for at least 48 to 72 hours after breast augmentation surgery. After this period, patients can shower comfortably, but they should avoid bathtubs or hot tubs for at least 2 weeks.

However, it is still best to follow your surgeon's advice because different conditions may arise with each breast surgery.

What are the effects of smoking on breast augmentation results?

For all types of surgeries, you should avoid smoking to ensure proper healing after the operation.

Smoking damages the airway and increases the risk of lung infections by making it harder to clear secretions.

I advise my patients to avoid nicotine for at least 2 weeks because nicotine constricts blood vessels and can delay wound healing.

How long after breast augmentation surgery can I swim?

You can go swimming once your incisions are fully healed, and the recovery process usually takes 3-4 weeks.

You should also make sure your incisions are not exposed to the sun, or else the scars may become more noticeable.

However, as long as you avoid sun exposure, you can go scuba diving, spearfishing, or engage in similar activities.
