How Should I Prepare for Abdominoplasty Surgery?

First of all, during the preparation process for abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, you need to follow a healthy, high-protein diet for at least 2-4 weeks before the surgery and make sure you are not constipated.

Another important aspect of preparation is being mentally ready. To achieve this, you should share your concerns with your surgeon during your consultation.

Your abdominoplasty surgery can be performed in a hospital, an independent surgical facility, or an office-based surgical suite.

In my practice, when you are ready for surgery, my medical team and I will follow the surgical plan we have agreed upon. I prefer general anesthesia, so you will be asleep during the tummy tuck surgery. Depending on the size of the surgery, it usually takes between two to four hours.

What Is the Downtime for a TT Surgery?

Generally, abdominoplasty involves a longer recovery period than most plastic surgery procedures. Getting through the initial phase of recovery usually takes about 3 weeks.

However, the downtime for abdominoplasty varies from patient to patient and depends on the size of the operated area on your body.

The exact downtime depends on your surgical results and will be informed to you before the surgery.

Can I Take Vitamin C and Other Supplements Before and After Surgery?

I always recommend my patients to suspend all multivitamins, aspirin, ibuprofen, and herbal supplements at least 3 weeks before surgery. Most items on the list will prevent blood clotting.

Vitamin C is generally not included in such lists but is also not necessary.

Do I Need to Lose Weight Before Abdominoplasty Surgery?

Having a healthy body mass index before pregnancy will allow you to have a safer surgical experience for your abdominoplasty.

Being at an average healthy weight will increase the safety of the procedure and also minimize the likelihood of needing an additional tummy tuck surgery.

Tummy Tuck – Burning Sensation at the Incision Site?

A burning sensation one week after tummy tuck surgery is very common. A skin nerve may be healing and it usually improves over time.

Just in case, this sensation could also be a sign of infection, so you should talk to your surgeon and have a detailed examination in person.
